T-Birds ten game winning streak snapped

After beating the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-3 in overtime one night ago, and extending their winning streak to ten games, the Soo Thunderbirds were in Powassan on Saturday night in a battle of the top two teams in the NOJHL.

The T-Birds, who won ten in a row, were up against a Voodoos team, who were winners of twenty one straight.

On Saturday night, the T-Birds had the ten game winning streak snapped as they fell 5-3 to the Powassan Voodoos at Powassan Sportsplex.

Greg Smith and Austin Kozluk led the way offensively for the T-Birds with a goal and an assist each while Noah Solinger had the other goal.

T-Birds forward Gage Stephney had one assist on the night, giving him twenty points on the season.

Keenan Eddy, Zach Senecal and Nick Smith also had an assist each.

Gary Mantz led the way offensively for the Voodoos with three assists while Cade Herd also had a three point night with a goal and two assists.

Ryan Bazzana had a goal and assist on the night while Rhys Brown and Andy Baker (power play) had the other goals for Powassan.

Ryan Theriault and Parker Bowman had an assist each for Powassan.

Brandon Gordon gave up 5 goals on 37 shots in the T-Birds loss while Nate McDonald made 33 saves for the Voodoos twenty second straight victory.

The T-Birds will now play their final game of 2016 on Sunday, December 18th at 2:00 p.m. against the French River Rapids at Noelville Arena.

The Rapids currently sit last in the NOJHL standings with only four points on the season.
