T-Birds lose third straight road game

By Matt Stefano

Heading into Iroquois Falls on Saturday night with a record of 8 wins and 3 losses, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to rebound after a 5-1 loss in Cochrane one night ago.

The T-Birds opened the scoring just 4:14 into the first as Ryan Waterhouse notched his 3rd as a T-Bird from Matt Caruso.

Zach Senecal, who has been goalless in his last four games, got his 9th of the season at 12:38 from Brendan Jay to make it a 2-0 T-Birds lead.

David Osborne, who had a goal and two assists against the T-Birds back on September 25th, would cut the T-Birds lead to 2-1 at 13:07 from Wade Auger and Alex Mitsionis.

Dillan Bruce’s 3rd from Blake Holowaty and Shadow Reuben tied things up at two at 15:46, before Josh Dejulio’s 1st at 16:50 from Phil Caron and Wade Auger gave the Eskis a 3-2 lead through one.

David Osborne’s second of the night on the power play at 3:54 from Jack Speer and Wade Auger was the only tally in the second period.

With the Soo trailing 4-2 heading into the third, it would be the Eskis adding two more.

Shadow Reuben’s 7th from Phil Caron and Riley Wagner at 3:44 made it a 5-2 game, before Grant Omyer’s 1st from Jordan Picard and Samuel Vigneux at 9:32 put the Eskis up by four.

The Soo went on to lose 6-2 to the Iroquois Falls Eskis at the Jus Jordan Arena.

Artem Bortovskiy made 51 saves for the Eskis while Doug Newhouse gave up 6 goals on 35 shots for the T-Birds loss.

The T-Birds, who have now dropped their third consecutive road game, have not lost three straight on the road since the 2013-2014 season.

The Soo will wrap up their three game East Division road trip on Sunday afternoon against the Timmins Rock at 2:00 p.m. from the McIntyre Arena.
