Senecal to try out for Canada East

By Matt Stefano

With the Canada East selection camp getting set to take place in Etobicoke, Ontario from December 3-7, it was announced that one player from the Soo Thunderbirds has been invited to compete for a roster spot for this year’s upcoming World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alberta.

Second year forward Zach Senecal is one of forty players invited to this year’s camp.

“It’s an honour to be invited to such a prestigious tryout camp. I am definitely looking forward to this great experience,” said Senecal.

The 18 year old forward, who put up 30 points through 50 games during his rookie season in 2015-2016, currently sits third in team points this season with 22 and leads his team in goals with 14.

“This season is going very well. The team started to gel in the past month and we are putting together a lot of full team efforts. I’m excited for what we have in store for the second half of the season,” continued the T-Birds top goal scorer.

Out of forty players invited, Senecal is the only NOJHLer attending this five day event.

“I think at any tryout you have to play to your strengths and show what kind of role you can play. For me, I think I have to go work hard every shift and work hard up and down both ends of the ice,” concluded Senecal.

T-Birds head coach and general manager Jordan Smith has been invited to serve as a guest coach for the Canada East selection camp.

The 2016 World Junior A Challenge will take place at the R.J. Lalonde Arena in Bonnyville, Alberta from December 11-17.
