
Thunderbirds split weekend set with Eagles

Matt Amadio scored the overtime winner as the Soo Thunderbirds upended the Soo (MI) Eagles 4-3 on Saturday night at the Essar Centre.
Nick Romano and Micky Sartoretto paced the Thunderbirds with a goal and an assist each offensively. Kurtis Barbarie also scored for the Thunderbirds in the win.
Former Eagles netminder John Kleinhans stopped 27 shots in the win.
George Curry, Dallas McLaughlin and Shane Totten scored for the Eagles in the loss while goaltender Chris Truehl stopped 38 shots. Taylor Pickering set up a pair of goals for the Eagles in the loss.
On Friday night, Truehl stopped 35 shots as the Eagles picked up a 4-1 win. Gavin Burbach scored a pair of goals while Pickering added two assists in the win for the Eagles. Hunter Long and Tyler Jones had the other goals for the Eagles.
Kleinhans stopped 40 shots for the Thunderbirds in the loss. Romano had the lone Thunderbirds goal.
Both teams are back in action next weekend. The Thunderbirds host Blind River on Friday night and Sudbury on Saturday night, both 7:30 starts at the John Rhodes, before traveling to Blind River on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles are on the road with games in Kirkland Lake on Friday, Abitibi on Saturday and North Bay on Sunday.
