Birds beat Beavers

Soo Thunderbirds cuffed the visiting Blind River
Beavers 8-1 in Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League exhibition action on
Friday night at John Rhodes Community Centre.
Among those who
turned in solid efforts for the Birds were rookie forward Sam Mathews,
rookie defenceman Mitchell Dionisi and second-year blueliner Joe
Spitzer, acquired during the summer from the cross-river Soo Eagles.
Starting
goalie Colin Elder stood out for Blind River in the half game that he
played for the rookie-laden Beavers. Elder made several big saves to
keep Blind River in the game throughout the first half of the contest.
