Birds home to Beavers tonight

Looking for a hockey fix on a nice Friday night? There's Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League exhibition play tonight at 8 p.m. at John Rhodes Community Centre when the Soo Thunderbirds play host to the Blind River Beavers. It'll be a new-look Thunderbird team this season as first-year general manager Kevin Cain has made a number of trades to bring in established NOJHL veterans including several local products: goalie Michael Doan, defenceman Corey Jackson and forwards David McCaig and Cody Zorzi. They will join returnees that include right winger Jerry Petingalo, defenceman James Delayer and goalie Tyler Vernelli as well as a host of players from the AAA midget Soo North Stars led by last season's scoring leader Brian Nanne.
